Dutchess Regional Professional Photographers
Cr., APM; the Dutchess Regional Professional Photographers (DRPP) is a non-profit organization dedicated to the educational needs of professional photographers. Ricardo A. Martinez, PP of A Certified, was the DRPP's first charter member and President and as such played a pivotal role in structuring the organization. The DRPP's meetings are as diverse as their speakers, who are carefully selected to represent the interests of the membership.

Meetings are held on the second Thursday of the month (with the exceptions of July and August) at the Fishkill Courtyard Mariott located conveniently at the junction of Route 9 and I-84 (exit 46B) in Fishkill NY. Registration and social time is held in the lobby area from 6 - 7 pm. Our guest speaker starts at 7 pm. Meetings generally end between 9 - 9:30.

Print Competition is held on a quarterly basis and is open to DRPP Members. Awards are given for Best in Show, First, Second and Third Place Prints. Annually, we have our Print of the Year Competition in which one print is awarded the title and honor of "Print of the Year".

When I think of Sheila Bogart, the phrase "If you build it they will come" from Field of Dreams comes to mind.
I first met Sheila at a class Tom Doyle was giving at the Cornwall Library.
We talked about taking photos of eagles and became instant friends.
Sheila takes beautiful photos of all kinds of birds.
I was amazed to learn that most of these photos are taken right from her living room window.
As photographers we all have a tale of how we started realizing we had a love of photography.
Sheila started taking photos when her children, who are now in their 40's were young and she wanted to share photos of them with family members in other states.
We don't think about it, but clubs like the DRPP exist for the benefit of the membership.
Through member interaction and programs at our meetings, we share information and techniques intended to increase our picture taking skill level.
I'm sure we'd all say that we've profited greatly from being a DRPP member.
Many organizations also engage in activities intended to establish community relations.
Not widely publicized, but the DRPP has been involved with local programs to give back to the community.
It is the desire of the Professional Photographers of America (and our DRPP organization) to have the best possible Print Competition and to judge all Images for their technical, artistic and commercial excellence.
These Twelve Elements have been defined as necessary for the success of an Image.
Any image, art piece or photograph will reveal some measure of all twelve elements, while a visually superior image will reveal obvious consideration of each one.
Impact is the sense one gets upon viewing an image for the first time.
Frank - 83 - simplicity, curves and diagonal lines.
Good visual impact.
Title - you know its a staircase with grandeur - but think about titles that can create an emotion - give a title with impact.
99% of a great photograph - just change title.
Ken - 86- has impact well done, the eyes are great - likes the light underneath - tells a nice story.
Frank - its been said - wants to see presentation of a better pin stripe - was not obvious - take a color around it as the matching color to one in the image.
Judges Comments: Very nice portrait photo; the Lighting is correct - the subject's face is lit on the 'Short Side' of the face.
The ear on the left side of his face should be darker.
Some light from the main light is wrapping around and illuminating his ear.
The leading lines all around the interior of the tunnel ALL bring you right to the subject.
This image wouldn't have been as dramatic if it had been taken from dead-center in the tunnel with the left and right sides equal.
Judges Comments: This is a 'Near Perfect' scenic landscape image, except for the little snippet of blue sky in the upper left-hand corner which is distracting.
