When I was a kid, I would look through family albums and think "I wonder how mom and dad were as kids and how their wedding day was."
I'm first generation Vietnamese- American and I know that photos were hard to come by in Vietnam.
BUT we do have ONE photo of my dad.
It's a 2x2, faded studio portrait of him in military clothing when he was 14.
I love this photo.
I love how innocent he was.
I love that he was naive.
He had no clue that he would eventually embark on a month long journey at sea to leave Vietnam on a homemade boat, in search of the great American dream.
