It was a long crooked road to find my way to becoming a photographer, but that's how all great love stories start, right? In 1995, I was packing to move to out West and it quickly became apparent that my most cherished items were the precious photos of the people and pets that I had loved the most. But those photos were few and tattered. I ultimately became a photographer because I wanted to give my clients what I don't have, beautiful, happy images they can cherish forever.
We are a team of Flagstaff photographers offering services in Arizona and California. Since 2008, Tangled Lilac has a teamwork approach in capturing your memories. We (Melissa and Kristen) have over 30 years of combined experience in photographing portraits and weddings and look forward to talking to you about your session or event. Our love for creative photography brought us together, and all the in-between moments have made us friends.

I grew up in the South in a small town in Georgia, just south of Chattanooga, TN.
I am the youngest of three kids and was also very close to my uncles.
I grew up thinking all of them were super heroes.
Also, I was lucky enough to spend a lot of time with my maternal grandparents, who were rocks in my life until they passed away in 1982 and 1996.
After mom transitioned, I wasn't allowed to go to counseling and was told not to cry.
And, while that sounds terrible, it was more innocent.
It wasn't like I asked for counseling and he said "NO", it was more when I started to cry, he would come and tell me softly, "Baby, your mom would be so sad if she thought you were crying, try and remember the best moments, and not this.".

I love my horses as much as my camera and have done both side-by-side for as long as I can remember.
It is not unusual to catch me horseback with a camera in my hands.
I'm always up for a challenge and I absolutely love to deliver those precious moments frozen in time to my clients.
